٦ - سورة الأنعام
( ۲ )
تَمْتَرُونَ
:تشكّون في البعث أو تجحدونه
You (all) harbour entertain doubts, sceptical from imtira. form VII from mirya/muryah

مِدْرَارًا
:مطراً كثيراً
Showering in profusion/abundantly, welling out. Verbal noun from 'darra' [darr], to
flow profusely
( ۷ )
كِتَابًا فِي قِرْطَاسٍ
:مكتوبا في كاغد أو رق
qirtas (s), pl: qaraatis : paper, parchment.
The ayah refers to the demand of the
unbelievers for a scripture written on a parchment to be sent down to them, and gives reply to that demand.

وَلَلَبَسْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ مَا يَلْبِسُونَ
:لَخَلَّطْنا حَتّى يَشْتَبِهَ عَلَيْهِمُ الأَمْرُ
labasna = we mixed up, confused,obscured.
The matter would have been obscured to them because if an angel was sent in the form of a man they would
have dismissed him as a stranger and
human being, and if sent in the original form they would niether have been able to bear his presence nor to
recognize him because of their peculiar notion about an angel.

فَحَاقَ . .
:أحاط، أو نزل . .
Surrounded, enclosed, encircled. past 'hawq'
( ۲۳ )
لَمْ تَكُنْ فِتْنَتُهُمْ
: جوابُهم حين يُخْتَبَرُون بهذا السؤالِ
Trial, temptation, enticement, discprd, plea or excuse (on trial)
( ۲٤ )
وَضَلَّ عَنۡهُم
:غاب و زال عنهم
it was lost to them, i.e. their supposed gods and deities will be of no avail to them
on that day.
( ۲۵ )
أكِنّة
:أغْطِيةً فلا تفقهُ القرآنَ فِقْهَ انتفاعٍ به
akinnah (pl), sing: kann/kinn
covers, coverings, shelters, nests
( ۲۵ )
وَقْرًا
:صمما و ثِقلا في السّمع
deafness, heaviness,hollowness
( ۲٦ )
وَيَنْأَوْنَ عَنْهُ
:يتباعدون عن القرآن بأنفسهم
na'a [na'y] : to keep away
They remain aloof, keep away
( ۳۱ )
مَا فَرَّطْنَا فِيهَا
:ما تَرَكْنا , قصّرنا و ضيّعنا في الحياة الدّنيا
We neglected, became remiss, forsook, abandoned
form II of farata [fart/furut] to rush, to escape
( ۳۵ )
كَبُرَ عَلَيْكَ
:شقّ و عظُم عليك
If it has become heavy on you
( ٤۰ )
أَرَأَيْتَكُمْ
:أخبروني
Tell me
( ٤۲ )
بِالْبَأْسَاءِ وَالضَّرَّاءِ
:بِٱلۡبَأۡسَآءِ: في الأموالِ وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ: في
الأبدانِ
ba'sa' = adversity, distress, difficulty, poverty
darra' = affliction, suffering, illness, distress
( ٤٤ )
هُمْ مُبْلِسُونَ
:يائِسون من كلِّ خيرٍ
Dumbfounded, those made speechless in confusion or grief or despair.

( ٤٦ )
هُمْ يَصْدِفُونَ
:هم يُعرضون عنها و يعدلون
to turn away, avoid, shun. i.e. to turn away from Allah and worship others.

بِالْغَدَاةِ وَالْعَشِيِّ
:في أول النّهار و آخره ، أي دواما
ghadawat (pl), s: ghadwah = morning time
ashiyy = evening
( ٦۰ )
جَرَحْتُمْ بِالنَّهَارِ
:كسَبْتُم بجَوارِ حِكم من الخيرِ والشرِّ
You aquired, earned; also wounded
( ٦۱ )
لَا يُفَرِّطُونَ
:لا يُضَيِّعُونَ، ولا يُقَصِّرُونَ ما أُمِرُوا به
They neglect, go too far, forsake. form II of farata - to rush, to escape
( ٦۳ )
تَدْعُونَهُ تَضَرُّعًا وَخُفْيَةً
:
tadarru' = humility, imploring, begging. Verbal noun in form VII of dara'a = to be
humble
( ٦۵ )
أَوْ يَلْبِسَكُمْ شِيَعًا
:يَخْلِطَكُمْ فِرَقًا مُتَناحِرَةً
"Yalbisakum" means, 'cover you with confusion', So it means to, 'divide into parties and sects'.
( ٦۸ )
يَخُوضُونَ فِي آيَاتِنَا
:يَتَكَلَّمُونَ مَسْتَهْزِئِينَ
engage in false conversation, vain talk
( ۷۰ )
أُبْسِلُوا بِمَا كَسَبُوا
:تُرْتَهَن وتُحْبَس في النّار أو أسلموا للهلكة ؛
وأصل الكلمة: البسل، وهو المنع، أي ترهن حتى لا محيص لها
( ۷۱ )
اسْتَهْوَتْهُ الشَّيَاطِينُ
:أي ذهبت به. وقيل: استمالته وأضلته فهوى، أي أسرع
إلى ما دعته إليه | كالَّذِي زَيَّنَتْ لَهُ الشَّياطِينُ هَواهُ
istahawat : seduced, lured, enticed, tempted , made fond of. Form X for hawiya/hawan to become fond of.

مَلَكُوتَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ
:المُلْكَ العظيمَ
( ۷٦ )
جَنَّ عَلَيْهِ اللَّيْلُ
:ستره بظلامه
Janna : it became dark, covered, descended
( ۷٦ )
أَفَلَ
:غاب و غرب تحت الأفق
it set, went down, disappeared
( ۷۷ )
بَازِغًا
:طالعا من الأفق مُنتشر الضّوء
Rising, coming out, emerging, dawning
( ۷۹ )
إِنِّي وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا
:قَصَدْت بِعِبادَتِي
I have turned my face to Him Who created the heavens and the earth as a sincere monotheist.
( ۹۰ )
فَبِهُدَاهُمُ اقْتَدِهْ
:اقْتَدِ واتَّبِعْ ، و الهاء للسكت
Be guided, follow, emulate
( ۹۱ )
تَجْعَلُونَهُ قَرَاطِيسَ
:تكتبون عنه دفاترَ وكتباً مُقَطَّعةً؛ فيَتِمُّ
لكم ما تُريدونه من التحريفِ
You make it into seperate sheets displaying only those that you like
qaraatees ( sing: qirtas) : papers, parchment, sheets

غَمَرَاتِ الْمَوْتِ
:سكراته و شدائده
ghamraraat ( sing: ghamarah ) : deluge, flood, adverseries, ups and downs
ghamraat ul maut : phrase meaning : throes of death, agonies of death.
( ۹٤ )
مَا خَوَّلْنَاكُمْ
:ما أعطيناكم من متاع الدّنيا
we bestowed, granted, conferred. from [khawl] -- to take care, manage
( ۹٤ )
لَقَدْ تَقَطَّعَ بَيْنَكُمْ
:زالَ تَواصُلُكُمْ
Now the bond is cutt off
( ۹۵ )
فَالِقُ الْحَبِّ وَالنَّوَى
:الَّذِي يَشُقُّ الحَبَّ، فَيَخْرُجُ الزَّرْعُ
مِنهُ
Allah splits the seeds and fruit kernels and brings out plants and trees and also brings out fruits and
seeds from those plants and trees.
( ۹۸ )
فَمُسْتَقَرٌّ
:في الأصلاب ، و قيل في الأرحام و نحوها
Time or place to settle, it was said it can be: mothers womb, or earth, or aakhirah
( ۹۸ )
وَمُسْتَوْدَعٌ
:في الأرحام و نحوها و قيل في الأصلاب
Respository, store house: can be womb, or grave
( ۹۹ )
مِنْ طَلْعِهَا
: الطَّلْعُ: ما تنشأُ فيه عناقيدُ الرُّطَبِ
Newly sprouting branch from which comes out clusters ( qinwaan )
( ۹۹ )
قِنْوَانٌ دَانِيَةٌ
:جمعُ قِنْو، وهو عُنقودُ النَّخْلِ , عُذُوقٌ
قَرِيبَةُ التَّناوُلِ
Qinwaan: bunches, clusters . sing. qinw.
synonym : Qutoof. Qutoof used for mature ripe fruit, qinwaan for less ripe fruit. also qinwaan is used only
for dates and grapes. Qutoof is used for all fruits.

وَيَنْعِهِ
:و إلى حال نضجه و إدراكه
Ripness, to become ripe
( ۹۹ )
فأخرجنا منه خضرًا
:زَرْعاً، وشَجَراً أخضرَ
( ۱۰۰ )
وَ خَرَقُوا لَهُ
:واختَلَقُوا، ونَسَبُوا
Fabricated, tore apart, violated
( ۱۰۹ )
جَهْدَ أَيْمَانِهِمْ
:مجتهدين في الحلف بأغلظها وأوكدها
Strongest oaths
( ۱۱۰ )
يَعْمَهُونَ
:يعمون عن الرّشد أو يتحيّرون ، فلا يَهْتَدُون إلى
الحقِّ
They wander blindly, are confused.
from: 'amaha' - to stray. it is like 'aman' (blindless) but former applies to mind and heart, while the
latter applies to both physical sight and mind.

وَلِتَصْغَى إِلَيْهِ
:لتميل إلى زُخرف القول
( ۱۱۳ )
وَلِيَقْتَرِفُوا
:ولِيكْتَسِبُوا من الأعمالِ السيئةِ
They commit, aquire (guilt/sin), perpetrate . From qarafa - to peel, or to feel disgust.

يَخْرُصُونَ
:يَظُنُّونَ ويَكْذِبُونَ
They guess, indulge in conjecture, tell a lie

حرجًا
:شديد الضّيق
constricted, tight, difficulty, anguish, critical situation
( ۱۲۵ )
يصّعد في السّماء
:يَصْعَدُ فِي طَبَقاتِ الجَوِّ
As if he were ascending into the sky
Just as it is very hard on any person to ascend into the sky, so it is difficult for an unbeliever to accept

لِيُرْدُوهُمْ
:ليُهلكوهم بالإغواء
They ruin, destroy, bring about the fall. arda - form IV of radiya/radan ( to perish, be destroyed )

:محجورة مُحرّمة
forbidden, prohibited, taboo

مَعْرُوشَاتٍ
:مُحْتاجَةً إلى العَرِيشِ، كالعِنَبِ، والعَرِيشُ:
أعْوادٌ تُنْصَبُ لِيَتَمَدَّدَ عَلَيْها الشَّجَرُ، ويَرْتَفِعَ عَنِ الأَرْضِ.

:كُلَّ ما لَمْ يَكُنْ مَشْقُوقَ الأَصابِعِ،
كالإبِلِ والنَّعامِ
Every animal with a claw. zufur : fingernail, claw

:شحوم الكرش و الكليتين

Become sects

خَلَائِفَ الْأَرْضِ
:
Sucessors to those who were before you and also as generations suceeding generations.
