سورة الواقعة
بِسمِ ٱلله الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيـمِ
ﻣﻜﻴﺔ إﻻ ﺁﻳﺘﻲ 81و 82ﻓﻤﺪﻧﻴﺘﺎن وﺁﻳﺎﺗﻬﺎ 96أو 97أو 99
This sura is Makkan, except for ayats 81 and 82, which are Madinan. It has 96, 97 or 99 ayats.
{ إذَا وَقَعَتْ الْوَاقِعَة } قَامَتْ الْقِيَامَة
1. When the Great Event – the Resurrection – occurs –
{ لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَة } نَفْس تَكْذِب بِأَنْ تَنْفِيهَا كَمَا نَفَتْهَا فِي الدُّنْيَا
2. …none will deny its occurrence – no soul will deny it then as they denied it in this world –
{ خَافِضَة رَافِعَة } أَيْ هِيَ مُظْهِرَة لِخَفْضِ أَقْوَام بِدُخُولِهِمْ النَّار وَلِرَفْعِ آخَرِينَ بِدُخُولِهِمْ الْجَنَّة
3. …bringing low, raising high. Some people will be brought low by being driven into the Fire while others will be raised high by being admitted into the Garden.
{ إذَا رُجَّتْ الْأَرْض رَجًّا } حُرِّكَتْ حَرَكَة شَدِيدَة
4. When the earth is convulsed violently,
{ وَبُسَّتْ الْجِبَال بَسًّا } فُتِّتَتْ
5. …and the mountains are crushed to powder,
{ فكانت هباء } غبارا { منبثا } منتشرا وإذا الثانية بدل من الأولى
6. …and become scattered flecks of dust in the air.
{ وكنتم } في القيامة { أزواجا } أصنافا { ثلاثة }
7. And you will be classed into three on the Day of Rising.
{ فَأَصْحَاب الْمَيْمَنَة } وَهُمْ الَّذِينَ يُؤْتُونَ كُتُبهمْ بِأَيْمَانِهِمْ مُبْتَدَأ خَبَره { مَا أَصْحَاب الْمَيْمَنَة } تَعْظِيم لِشَأْنِهِمْ بدخولهم الجنة
8. The Companions of the Right: what of the Companions of the Right? They are the people who are given their books in their right hands. This exalts their position because they will enter the Paradise.
{ وَأَصْحَاب الْمَشْأَمَة } أَيْ الشِّمَال بِأَنْ يُؤْتَى كُلّ مِنْهُمْ كِتَابه بِشِمَالِهِ { مَا أَصْحَاب الْمَشْأَمَة } تَحْقِير لِشَأْنِهِمْ بِدُخُولِهِمْ النَّار
9. The Companions of the Left: what of the Companions of the Left? These are given their books in their left hands and they will be debased because they will enter the Fire.
{ وَالسَّابِقُونَ } إلَى الْخَيْر وَهُمْ الْأَنْبِيَاء مُبْتَدَأ { السَّابِقُونَ } تأكيد لتعظيم شأنهم
10. And the Forerunners, the Forerunners. Those who race first to good. They are the Prophets. Repetition is used to stress their importance.
{ أولئك المقربون }
11. Those are the ones brought near,
{ في جنات النعيم }
12. …in Gardens of Delight.
{ ثُلَّة مِنْ الْأَوَّلِينَ } مُبْتَدَأ أَيْ جَمَاعَة مِنْ الأمم الماضية
13. A large group of the earlier people of past nations,
{ وَقَلِيل مِنْ الْآخِرِينَ } مِنْ أُمَّة مُحَمَّد صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُمْ السَّابِقُونَ مِنْ الْأُمَم الْمَاضِيَة وَهَذِهِ الْأُمَّة وَالْخَبَر
14. … but few of the later ones – few of the community of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. They are the forerunners of past nations and this nation.
{ عَلَى سُرَر مَوْضُونَة } مَنْسُوجَة بِقُضْبَانِ الذَّهَب وَالْجَوَاهِر
15. On sumptuous woven couches inlaid with gold and gems,
{ مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَابِلِينَ } حَالَانِ مِنْ الضَّمِير فِي الخبر
16. …reclining on them face to face
{ يَطُوف عَلَيْهِمْ } لِلْخِدْمَةِ { وِلْدَان مُخَلَّدُونَ } عَلَى شَكْل الْأَوْلَاد لَا يَهْرَمُونَ
17. Ageless youths will circulate among them – young servants who do not age –
{ بِأَكْوَابٍ } أَقْدَاح لَا عُرَا لَهَا { وَأَبَارِيق } لَهَا عُرَا وَخَرَاطِيم { وَكَأْس } إنَاء شُرْب الْخَمْر { مِنْ مَعِين } أَيْ خَمْر جَارِيَة مِنْ مَنْبَع لَا ينقطع أبدا
18. …carrying goblets and decanters – the former are vessels with no handle and the latter vessels with a nose or spout and handles to hold them by – and a cup from a flowing spring which never stops.
{ لَا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنْزَفُونَ } بِفَتْحِ الزَّاي وَكَسْرهَا مِنْ نَزَفَ الشَّارِب وَأَنْزَفَ أَيْ لَا يَحْصُل لَهُمْ مِنْهَا صُدَاع وَلَا ذَهَاب عَقْل بخلاف خمر الدنيا
19. It does not give them any headache, nor does it leave them stupefied (read as yunzafuna and yunzifuna). They do not get a headache from it nor does their intellect become disturbed as is the case with wine in this world.
{ وفاكهة مما يتخيرون }
20. And any fruit they specify,
{ ولحم طير مما يشتهون و } لهم للاستمتاع
21. …and any bird-meat they desire,
{ حور } نِسَاء شَدِيدَات سَوَاد الْعُيُون وَبَيَاضهَا { عِين } ضِخَام الْعُيُون كُسِرَتْ عَيْنه بَدَل ضَمّهَا لِمُجَانَسَةِ الْيَاء وَمُفْرَده عَيْنَاء كَحَمْرَاء وَفِي قِرَاءَة بِجَرِّ حُور عين
22. …and dark-eyed maidens (read as hurun‘inuna and hurin‘inin) – girls with very large dark eyes –
{ كَأَمْثَالِ اللُّؤْلُؤ الْمَكْنُون } الْمَصُون
23. …like hidden pearls,
{ جَزَاء } مَفْعُول لَهُ أَوْ مَصْدَر وَالْعَامِل الْمُقَدَّر أَيْ جَعَلْنَا لَهُمْ مَا ذُكِرَ لِلْجَزَاءِ أَوْ جزيناهم { بما كانوا يعملون }
24. …as recompense for what they did.
{ لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا } فِي الْجَنَّة { لَغْوًا } فَاحِشًا مِنْ الْكَلَام { وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا } مَا يُؤْثِم
25. They will hear no prattling in it (the Garden) nor any word of wrong – coarse language which is sinful.
{ إلَّا } لَكِنْ { قِيلًا } قَوْلًا { سَلَامًا سَلَامًا } بَدَل من قيلا فإنهم يسمعونه
26. All that is said is, ‘Peace! Peace!’ That is all that they will hear there.
{ وأصحاب اليمين ما أصحاب اليمين }
27. And the Companions of the Right: what of the Companions of the Right?
{ فِي سِدْر } شَجَر النَّبْق { مَخْضُود } لَا شَوْك فيه
28. Amid thornless lote-trees – lote-trees in this world have thorns –
{ وَطَلْح } شَجَر الْمَوْز { مَنْضُود } بِالْحَمْلِ مِنْ أَسْفَله إلى أعلاه
29. …and fruit-laden acacias, also said to be banana trees which will be full of fruit from top to bottom,
{ وَظِلّ مَمْدُود } دَائِم
30. …and wide-spreading constant shade,
{ وماء مسكوب } جار دائما
31. …and constantly outpouring water,
{ وفاكهة كثيرة }
32. …and fruits in abundance,
{ لَا مَقْطُوعَة } فِي زَمَن { وَلَا مَمْنُوعَة } بِثَمَنٍ
33. …never failing at any time unrestricted – not costing anything –
{ وَفُرُش مَرْفُوعَة } عَلَى السُّرَر
34. …and on elevated couches.
{ إنَّا أَنْشَأْنَاهُنَّ إنْشَاء } أَيْ الْحُور الْعِين مِنْ غير ولادة
35. We have brought maidens into being – houris who were created without being born –
{ فَجَعَلْنَاهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا } عَذَارَى كُلَّمَا أَتَاهُنَّ أَزْوَاجهنَّ وَجَدُوهُنَّ عَذَارَى وَلَا وَجَع
36. …and made them purest virgins – whenever their husbands come to them, they find them virgins;
{ عُرُبًا } بِضَمِّ الرَّاء وَسُكُونهَا جَمْع عُرُوب وَهِيَ الْمُتَحَبِّبَة إلَى زَوْجهَا عِشْقًا لَهُ { أَتْرَابًا } جَمْع تِرْب أَيْ مُسْتَوِيَات فِي السِّنّ
37. … devoted, passionate (read as ‘urub and ‘urb) towards their spouses, of like age,
{ لِأَصْحَابِ الْيَمِين } صِلَة أَنْشَأْنَاهُنَّ أَوْ جَعَلْنَاهُنَّ وَهُمْ
38. … appointed for the Companions of the Right:
{ ثلة من الأولين }
39. …a large group of the earlier people…
{ وثلة من الآخرين }
40. …and a large group of the later ones.
{ وأصحاب الشمال ما أصحاب الشمال }
41. And the Companions of the Left: what of the Companions of the Left?
{ فِي سَمُوم } رِيح حَارَّة مِنْ النَّار تَنْفُذ فِي الْمَسَامّ { وَحَمِيم } مَاء شَدِيد الْحَرَارَة
42. Amid searing blasts – the word used here, samum, is a wind of intense heat – and scalding water…
{ وَظِلّ مِنْ يَحْمُوم } دُخَان شَدِيد السَّوَاد
43. …and the murk of thick black smoke,
{ لَا بَارِد } كَغَيْرِهِ مِنْ الظِّلَال { وَلَا كَرِيم } حَسَن المنظر
44. …providing no coolness – which other kinds of shade do – and no pleasure when you see it.
{ إنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَبْل ذَلِك } فِي الدُّنْيَا { مُتْرَفِينَ } مُنَعَّمِينَ لَا يَتْعَبُونَ فِي الطَّاعَة
45. Before that, in this world, they were living in luxury – in great affluence, but did not bother themselves with obeying Allah,
{ وَكَانُوا يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى الْحِنْث } الذَّنْب { الْعَظِيم } أَيْ الشرك
46. … persisting in immense wrongdoing: wrong actions and shirk, …
{ وكانوا يقولون أئذا متنا وكنا ترابا وعظاما أئنا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ } فِي الْهَمْزَتَيْنِ فِي الْمَوْضِعَيْنِ التَّحْقِيق وَتَسْهِيل الثَّانِيَة وَإِدْخَال أَلِف بَيْنهمَا عَلَى الْوَجْهَيْنِ
47. …and saying, ‘When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again?
{ أو آباؤنا الأولون } بفتح الواو للعطف والهمزة للاستفهام وهو في ذلك وفيما قبله للاستبعاد وفي قراءة بسكون الواو عطفا بأو والمعطوف عليه محل إن واسمها
48. And our forefathers, the earlier peoples?’ Their question means that they think that it is unlikely.
{ قل إن الأولين والآخرين }
49. Say: ‘The earlier and the later peoples…
{ لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إلَى مِيقَات } لِوَقْتِ { يَوْم مَعْلُوم } أَيْ يوم القيامة
50. …will certainly all be gathered to the appointment of a specified Day – the Day of Rising.
{ ثم إنكم أيها الضالون المكذبون }
51. Then you, you misguided, you deniers,
{ لآكلون من شجرة مِنْ زَقُّوم } بَيَان لِلشَّجَرِ
52. …will eat from the tree of Zaqqum,
{ فمالئون منها } من الشجر { البطون }
53. …filling your stomachs with it,
{ فشاربون عليه } أي الزقوم المأكول { من الحميم }
54. …and drink scalding water on top of it – those who eat from Zaqqum will also drink boiling water,
{ فَشَارِبُونَ شَرْب } بِفَتْحِ الشِّين وَضَمّهَا مَصْدَر { الْهِيم } الْإِبِل الْعِطَاش جَمْع هَيْمَان لِلذَّكَرِ وَهَيْمَى لِلْأُنْثَى كعطشان وعطشى
55. …slurping (read as shurb and sharb) like thirst-crazed camels. The word for “thirst-crazed camels”, him, is the plural of hayam, which means a camel suffering from a disease that makes it madly thirsty.
{ هَذَا نُزُلهمْ } مَا أُعِدَّ لَهُمْ { يَوْم الدِّين } يوم القيامة
56. This will be their hospitality prepared for them on the Day of Judgment!’
{ نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَاكُمْ } أَوَجَدْنَاكُمْ مِنْ عَدَم { فَلَوْلَا } هَلَّا { تُصَدِّقُونَ } بِالْبَعْثِ إذْ الْقَادِر عَلَى الْإِنْشَاء قَادِر على الإعادة
57. We created you, so why do you not confirm the truth? We brought you into existence from non-existence. Why then do you not believe in the Resurrection since the One who is able to originate is certainly able to regenerate?
{ أَفَرَأَيْتُمْ مَا تُمْنُونَ } تُرِيقُونَ مِنْ الْمَنِيّ فِي أرحام النساء
58. Have you thought about the sperm that you ejaculate – which settles into the wombs of women?
{ أَأَنْتُمْ } بِتَحْقِيقِ الْهَمْزَتَيْنِ وَإِبْدَال الثَّانِيَة أَلِفًا وَتَسْهِيلهَا وَإِدْخَال أَلِف بَيْن الْمُسَهَّلَة وَالْأُخْرَى وَتَرْكه فِي المواضع الأخرى { تخلقونه } أي المني بشرا { أم نحن الخالقون }
59. Is it you who create it (sperm) or are We the Creator?
{ نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا } بِالتَّشْدِيدِ وَالتَّخْفِيف { بَيْنكُمْ الْمَوْت وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ } بِعَاجِزِينَ
60. We have decreed (read as qaddarna and qadarna) death for you and We will not be forestalled – and no one can escape Us –
{ عَلَى } عَنْ { أَنْ نُبَدِّل } نَجْعَل { أَمْثَالكُمْ } مَكَانكُمْ { وَنُنْشِئكُمْ } نَخْلُقكُمْ { فِي مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ } مِنْ الصُّوَر كَالْقِرَدَةِ وَالْخَنَازِير
61. …in replacing you with others the same as you and re-forming you in a way you know nothing about: in other forms, like monkeys and pigs.
{ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمْ النَّشْأَة الْأُولَى } وَفِي قِرَاءَة بِسُكُونِ الشِّين { فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ } فِيهِ إدْغَام التَّاء الثَّانِيَة فِي الْأَصْل فِي الذَّال
62. You have known the first formation (read as nash’a and nasha’a) so will you not pay heed?
{ أَفَرَأَيْتُمْ مَا تَحْرُثُونَ } تُثِيرُونَ فِي الْأَرْض وَتُلْقُونَ البذر فيها
63. Have you thought about what you cultivate? – the land you plough and put your seeds into.
{ أأنتم تزرعونه } تنبتونه { أم نحن الزارعون }
64. Is it you who make it germinate and grow or are We the Germinator?
{ لَوْ نَشَاء لَجَعَلْنَاهُ حُطَامًا } نَبَاتًا يَابِسًا لَا حَبّ فِيهِ { فَظَلْتُمْ } أَصْله ظَلِلْتُمْ بِكَسْرِ اللَّام حُذِفَتْ تَخْفِيفًا أَيْ أَقَمْتُمْ نَهَارًا { تَفَكَّهُونَ } حُذِفَتْ مِنْهُ إحْدَى التَّاءَيْنِ فِي الْأَصْل تَعْجَبُونَ مِنْ ذلك وتقولون
65. If We wished We could have made it broken stubble – dry broken chaff with no grain in it. You would then be left devoid of crops, distraught – stunned and distressed by that – and say:
{ إنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ } نَفَقَة زَرْعنَا
66. ‘We are ruined – in debt for what we spent on our crops –
{ بل نحن محرومون } ممنوعون رزقنا
67. …in fact we are destitute!’ “We have no provision at all.”
{ أفرأيتم الماء الذي تشربون }
68. Have you thought about the water that you drink?
{ أَأَنْتُمْ أَنَزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنْ الْمُزْن } السَّحَاب جَمْع مُزْنَة { أم نحن المنزلون }
69. Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or are We the Sender?
{ لَوْ نَشَاء جَعَلْنَاهُ أُجَاجًا } مِلْحًا لَا يُمْكِن شربه { فلولا } هلا { تشكرون }
70. If We wished We could have made it bitter – so salty that it cannot be drunk – so will you not give thanks?
{ أَفَرَأَيْتُمْ النَّار الَّتِي تُورُونَ } تُخْرِجُونَ مِنْ الشَّجَر الأخضر
71. Have you thought about the fire that you light? The fire which comes from the green trees whose wood is used as a fire lighter.
{ أأنتم أنشأتم شجرتها } كالمرخ والعفار والكلخ { أم نحن المنشئون }
72. Is it you who make the trees that fuel it grow or are We the Grower?
{ نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَاهَا تَذْكِرَة } لِنَارِ جَهَنَّم { وَمَتَاعًا } بِلُغَةٍ { لِلْمُقْوِينَ } لِلْمُسَافِرِينَ مِنْ أَقْوَى الْقَوْم أَيْ صَارُوا بالقوا بِالْقَصْرِ وَالْمَدّ أَيْ الْقَفْر وَهُوَ مَفَازَة لَا نَبَات فِيهَا وَلَا مَاء
73. We have made it to be a reminder of Hellfire and a comfort for travellers in the wild – a means of warmth and light for those travelling in places where there are neither plants nor water.
{ فَسَبِّحْ } نَزِّهْ { بِاسْمِ } زَائِدَة { رَبّك الْعَظِيم } اللَّه
74. So glorify the name of your Lord, the Magnificent! Proclaim Allah to be pure from any association.
{ فَلَا أُقْسِم } لَا زَائِدَة { بِمَوَاقِع النُّجُوم } بِمَسَاقِطِهَا لغروبها
75. No! I swear by the falling (setting) of the stars –
{ وَإِنَّهُ } أَيْ الْقَسَم بِهَا { لَقَسَم لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيم } لَوْ كُنْتُمْ مِنْ ذَوِي الْعِلْم لَعَلِمْتُمْ عِظَم هَذَا الْقَسَم
76. …and that is a mighty oath if you only knew – swearing by that is an immense oath. If you were someone with knowledge, you would have known that –
{ إنه } أي المتلو عليكم { لقرآن كريم }
77. …it (what is recited to you) truly is a Noble Qur’an…
{ فِي كِتَاب } مَكْتُوب { مَكْنُون } مَصُون وَهُوَ الْمُصْحَف
78. …in a well protected Book – written and safeguarded, referring to bound copies of the Qur’an.
{ لَا يَمَسّهُ } خَبَر بِمَعْنَى النَّهْي { إلَّا الْمُطَهَّرُونَ } الَّذِينَ طَهَّرُوا أَنْفُسهمْ مِنْ الْأَحْدَاث
79. No one may touch it except the purified – this is a prohibition. Those who have purified themselves of minor impurities are the only ones who should touch copies of the Qur’an.
{ تنزيل } منزل { من رب العالمين }
80. …revelation sent down from the Lord of all the worlds – Allah.
{ أَفَبِهَذَا الْحَدِيث } الْقُرْآن { أَنْتُمْ مُدْهِنُونَ } مُتَهَاوِنُونَ مُكَذِّبُونَ
81. Do you nonetheless regard this discourse (the Qur’an) with scorn – disdaining and denying it –
{ وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقكُمْ } مِنْ الْمَطَر أَيْ شُكْره { أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ } بِسُقْيَا اللَّه حَيْثُ قُلْتُمْ مُطِرْنَا بِنَوْءِ كذا
82. …and think your provision depends on your denial of the truth? Do you make your gratitude for rain a denial of Allah by saying that the rain occurs through the setting of a certain star?
{ فَلَوْلَا } فَهَلَّا إذَا بَلَغَتْ الرُّوح وَقْت النَّزْع { الْحُلْقُوم } هُوَ مَجْرَى الطَّعَام
83. Why then, when death reaches his throat – when a person’s soul arrives at the moment of being wrenched from the body,
{ وأنتم } يا حاضري الميت { حينئذ تنظرون } إليه
84. …and you are at that moment looking on – present with the dying person,
{ وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَب إلَيْهِ مِنْكُمْ } بِالْعِلْمِ { وَلَكِنْ لَا تُبْصِرُونَ } مِنْ الْبَصِيرَة أَيْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ ذَلِكَ
85. …and We are nearer him – through Our knowledge – than you, but you cannot see –
{ فَلَوْلَا } فَهَلَّا { إنْ كُنْتُمْ غَيْر مَدِينِينَ } مَجْزِيِّينَ بِأَنْ تُبْعَثُوا أَيْ غَيْر مَبْعُوثِينَ بِزَعْمِكُمْ
86. …why then, if you are not subject to Our command – not subject to account when you are resurrected, as you claim –
{ تَرْجِعُونَهَا } تَرُدُّونَ الرُّوح إلَى الْجَسَد بَعْد بُلُوغ الْحُلْقُوم { إنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ } فِيمَا زَعَمْتُمْ فَلَوْلَا الثَّانِيَة تَأْكِيد لِلْأُولَى وَإِذَا ظَرْف لِتَرْجِعُونَ الْمُتَعَلِّق بِهِ الشَّرْطَانِ وَالْمَعْنَى هَلَّا تَرْجِعُونَهَا إنْ نَفَيْتُمْ الْبَعْث صَادِقِينَ فِي نَفْيه أَيْ لِيَنْتَفِيَ عَنْ مَحِلّهَا الْمَوْت كَالْبَعْثِ
87. …do you not send it back – return the spirit to the body after it reaches the throat – if you are telling the truth? You will not bring it back, in spite of the fact that you deny the Resurrection and claim not to be subject to Allah’s command.
{ فأما إن كان } الميت { من المقربين }
88. But the truth is that if he (the dead person) is one of those brought near…
{ فروح } أي فله استراحة { وريحان } رِزْق حَسَن { وَجَنَّة نَعِيم } وَهَلْ الْجَوَاب لِأَمَّا أو لإن أو لهما أقوال
89. …there is solace (rest) and sweetness (good provision) and a Garden of Delight.
{ وأما إن كان من أصحاب اليمين }
90. And if he is one of the Companions of the Right,
{ فَسَلَام لَك } أَيْ لَهُ السَّلَامَة مِنْ الْعَذَاب { مِنْ أَصْحَاب الْيَمِين } مِنْ جِهَة أَنَّهُ مِنْهُمْ
91. ‘Peace be upon you!’ from the Companions of the Right: “Safety from the punishment” is what they say to him.
{ وأما إن كان من المكذبين الضالين }
92. And if he is one of the misguided deniers,
{ فنزل من حميم }
93. …there is hospitality of scalding water
{ وتصلية جحيم }
94. …and roasting in the Blazing Fire.
{ إنَّ هَذَا لَهُوَ حَقّ الْيَقِين } مِنْ إضَافَة الْمَوْصُوف إلَى صِفَته
95. This is indeed the Truth of Certainty.
{ فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبّك الْعَظِيم } تَقَّدَمَ
96. So glorify the Name of your Lord, the Magnificent!
