1. When the sky is split apart;

2. …when the stars fall from their places and are strewn about;

3. …when the seas flood and overflow – run into one another and become one body of water, and the salt and sweet water mix;

4. …when the graves are emptied out and their dead are resurrected;

5. …each self will know at that moment what it has sent ahead and left behind by way of actions it did and did not do. That means the Day of Resurrection.

6. O unbelieving man! What has deluded you in respect of your Noble Lord so that you disobeyed Him? –

7. He Who created you when you were nothing, and formed you, and proportioned (read as ‘adalaka and ‘addalalaka) you as a balanced creation with symmetrical limbs, so that a hand is not in the place of a foot or vice versa, or one foot larger than the other,

8. …and assembled you in whatever way He willed.

9. Yes indeed! But still you, unbelievers of Makka, deny the Judgement – the repayment for actions. This denial stems from their being deluded by the generosity of Allah.

10. Standing over you are guardians – angels who record actions,

11. …noble in Allah’s sight, recorders of actions –

12. …who know what you do.

13. The truly good – the believers who are true in their faith – will be in perfect Bliss in Paradise.

14. The dissolute (unbelievers) will be in a Blazing Fire.

15. They will enter it and roast in it on the Day of Judgement,

16. …and will never get away from it.

17. What will convey to you what the Day of Judgement is?

18. Again, what will convey to you what the Day of Judgement is? The repetition is to emphasise its immensity.

19. It is the Day when no soul will have no power to help any other soul in any way. You will not be able to benefit anyone then. The command that Day will be Allah’s alone – and there will be no middle ground, which is not the case in this world.
